Sony Reader Touch
I recently got the chance to review the Sony Reader Touch Edition at Borders and let me just say it is one of the coolest techie gadgets I’ve come across in a long time!
Just ask SGT Daddy – I’m not one big on “reading ” ! (well except blogs and websites of course !) I could definitely see me using this for personal and business ! I can’t wait to get mine!!!*
I really love their open format technology so that you can order books and also open various other documents like PDF’s and even non-copyrighted MP3 files. It also comes in 3 awesome colors – Black, Silver and red)
Here are just SOME of the features from the Borders website -
Elegant 6 inch display with touch screen navigation
Carry thousands of your favorite books3
Freehand highlighting and annotation
Access a wide number of online bookstores
Thin, light, highly portable design
Paper-like display for easy, natural reading
Two full weeks of reading on a single batterycharge
Built-in Oxford American English e-Dictionary
Intuitive eBook Library software for PC and Mac
5 adjustable font sizes to customize your reading experience
There are so many uses for a product like this but it would be perfect for two specific segments of the population: the military as well as the low-vision community.
For the military- this would be perfect. Soldiers and other military service members already carry around so much gear and armor. (for the obvious reasons), they certainly couldn’t pack books in their bags too. They don’t have the extra space in their “rooms” for lots of books and there certainly isn’t a local Borders in their area to get said Books.
The E-Reader is perfect for them . They can download 350 of their favorite books to take with them when they do have their “down time”
In case you don’t know – our oldest daughter, Kiersten, has some low vision issues. The reader is PERFECT for her! She can enlarge the font on a book or document with the touch of her finger. She can also listen to audio files on their too. She tested it out with me and it was super easy for her to use . (She’s 11 by the way )
Congrats to Borders and Sony for coming out with a superior product! It is definitely going to change the way people think about “books” especially military families. Just think of all the extra space in your house if you put your books on this Reader… not to mention less to worry about during those PCS moves!!!
Stay tuned because TOMORROW will be all about how YOU can win one Sony Reader Touch for your military service member!!
*Full disclosure- I will be compensated for my review of this product by Borders by receiving a Sony Reader Touch Edition. This has in no way affected by decision one way or another.
My friends Sara, Tracy and I went to have lunch at Joe’s Crab Shack today. Oh man was it good. I highly recommend the stuffed shrimp. We had a great time eating and laughing and talking about our FRG experiences today.
On another note, we got Beck’s report card today. She got straight A’s and made the honor roll for the second consecutive time. I’m so proud of her!
No, I’m NOT! We are still here in CO , healthy and pretty happy. It’s just been a whirlwind couple of weeks.
First – I hope that all of you had a wonderful thanksgiving holiday! We didn’t have SGT Daddy at home but we certainly had a lot to be thankful for this year.
Secondly – My awesome super cool desktop computer aka Mac is dying. His heart is giving out! (aka hard drive issues) I can’t blame him for I’ve put Mac through the wringer for last 4 year with video/web/graphic editing.
I’ve forced (yes FORCED) to use my HP mini PC laptop for all online activity these days. For those that know me very well, no that I’m not particular a fan of PC. (let the hate mail start now….)
Anyway,I’m here and we are all doing great! Looking forward to Christmas! I’ll be posting some cool stuff about SGT Daddy later today , so stay tuned for that! : )

I spoke with Roxanne (CEO and founder… and super cool chick) on Tuesday and I accepted an offer to put together their social media for the company! So I’m sure I’ll be super busy over the next few weeks getting things rolling over there.
Lots of other “excitement” happening around here too which I’ll share in an uber-long post tomorrow (just warning you now LOL )
I recently signed up for this and was approved within a couple of weeks!! If you’re thinking of going back to school but didn’t have any extra money … HERE IS YOUR CHANCE!! The best part is that you don’t have to pay it back !!
DoD’s expanded Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) program will provide up to $6,000 in Financial Assistance for Military Spouses who are pursuing degree programs, licenses or credentials leading to employment in portable career fields.
Financial Assistance pays expenses such as education and training programs, tuition, licensing and credentialing fees for degree programs (associates, bachelors, masters, doctoral and post doctoral), continuing education classes (including those offered through professional associations), Bar, CPA and other similar exams, state certifications for teachers, medical professionals and other licensed professionals.
Who Is Eligible: Spouses of Active Duty members of the Department of Defense and activated members of the National Guard and Reserve Components are eligible. The period of eligibility for spouses of Guard and Reserve members is from the date of the Alert or Warning Order for Military Recall or Mobilization, through activation and deployment until 180 days following De-Mobilization. Spouses of the severely injured, ill, wounded or killed in action are also eligible. Military spouses who are legally separated by state law or court order are ineligible. Spouses who are active duty members or activated Guard or Reserve members themselves are ineligible.
To Receive this Assistance, the Military Spouse only needs to complete a MyCAA Career and Training Plan and then apply for MyCAA Financial Assistance. Eligible spouses can establish a MyCAA Account by visiting the MyCAA website: https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/mycaa
For further information, visit the MyCAA website at: https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/mycaa/default.aspx Due to the popularity of the MyCAA program, they are experiencing a temporary backlog of about four weeks. Requests are processed in the order they were received so plan accordingly when registering for training.
My friend Michelle talked me into joining Ft Carson ESCO (Enlisted Spouse Club Organization) the other day and tonight is the first meeting. (to be honest I talked her into joining the PTO with me, so it was only fair)
So, of course the meeting has a THEME! It is come as a Music Icon. I couldn’t come up with anything majorly creative so I chose Cyndi Lauper since most of the 80’s fashion is back .
You guys know that almost everything is bloggable in my life (as long as no OPSEC violations) so here you go .. (please don’t laugh too hard)
