Ereaders will definitely change the way we shop for books. My husband is in Iraq and he has already said that he’d love one because it’s so expensive to keep shipping books back and forth and he doesn’t have room to store more than a few at a time.

Okay here we go (I SOOOOO want one of these for Huzzy since V-Day, our anniversary, his birthday and another deployment are all coming in the next two months!):
1. E-readers will definitely change the way I shop for books. Especially for my husband. He’s on a submarine, so they can’t bring much with them. And the type of sub he’s on.. they are super-secret and go WEEKS without contact. When you are on a sub, you can A. Read. or B. Watch movies. Movies get old after a while and books take up so much space that they don’t really have room to store many of them. An E-reader would allow me to pre-load it with books and let him have tons to do during those lonely weeks without e-mail, fresh air, sunshine or any sort of contact with the outside world. I mean, those fishes they are with gotta get boring after a while! On top of all that, I’ll be deploying myself (reserve Navy officer)… probably within the next two years… I’m so stealing it if I win it for Huzzy
2. I’m not sure how to leave a URL link with my Tweet on it. But this is what my Tweet said: WifeyofaSailor
OMG.. check out my blog! I now have FIVE Sony Touch Readers giveaway contests on it. FIVE. Holy crap! http://www.wifeofasailor.com #borderscontest. It was sent 18JAN10 at 1515EST.
3. It’s on my blog! http://wifeofasailor.com/2010/01/17/sony-touch-reader-giveaway-for-active-duty
Woot! I really hope I win, but if I don’t, any other Active Duty person will totally deserve it.

I’d love to win! I think eBook Readers are the new wave in books and publishing. I’d be more likely to buy more books because they won’t count against us on our household weight every time we move! I also think my husband would love to have the searchability of the Sony Reader for his sermon research (he’s a chaplain).

I think it has added one more way of receiving information, and also how the information will be stored and kept. Certain things will be easier: for instance, being able to tote books around –that’s a given. But also being able to store the information, and parse it out as we research projects. However, we’ll still buy loads of books used, since there’s value in reading a lot of books that are out-of-print.
The only thing we won’t be able to do is read them as we sit in the tub. That is, unless they come up with one that’s waterproof!

I believe that e-books will forever change the way my husband and I travel!!! Not only can my husband take it with him this year if he gets deployed but he can also take it with him to work and read there since his unit isn’t currently here.
Blogged about it on my website!

I think that eBooks will shift the way we buy books, but not eliminate the desire to buy real paper books.
We almost never buy new books anyway, preferring to buy used or borrow from the library, so I’m not sure how much difference an eReader will make for our family. I can’t see dropping a ton of money on eBooks when we don’t spend on paper books.
Great contest.
Ebooks and the readers will make the way I buy books much easier. I hate when I finish reading a book and don’t feel like going out to the store, but want to start reading something new. With the Reader, I can just go online and download a new book. It would be great for traveling as well, it holds soo many books in such a small space.

I recently went back to college, 31+years and 12 children later, and being able to use an E-reader to upload textbooks would make my life so much more easier and simpler. No more lugging and armful of textbooks; I could simply slip the reader in my purse and bring them along wherever I go! AMAZING!
My husband would love one! I got a Kindle and he has been eying it with envy. What a perfect thing for him to take on TDY and Deployment!

Sorry, forgot to add my answer to the question…
E-readers will change the way we shop for books, because we will no longer have to wait. We won’t have to wait for a delivery to our APO box, we won’t have to wait for the (lovely) BX to get good books in stock, and we won’t have to worry about buying a ton of books and going over our HHG weight allowance!

What a great giveaway!
I’ve blogged about it here!

I found out about this giveaway on A Yummy Mummy on a Pink Park Bench and I think it’s wonderful. And I am a huge fan of Borders! In any case, my good friend just bought an e-reader the other day and is having a blast with it. As an Army Officer (at Fort Bliss, Texas), I work long hours and hardly have the time to go to the bookstore to look for the books I love. So the e-reader would definitely give me the time and convenience of finding all my favorite books at the click of a mouse! The e-reader would not also save us time, but money! If I were to win, I’d send the e-reader to my husband in Iraq who has been asking me to send him books in the mail. He’s an on-the-go guy as well and this would make it very easy for him to get all of his reading in!
Absolutely it will change how I shop for books! I love books, but the weight, not so much! I also love the idea of having a bunch of books with me at all times, that I can just slip in my purse!

The e-reader would change the way we buy and read books, because we would simply be buying more often. My husband loves to read and this would be perfect to take on his upcoming year long deployment. Having the e-reader would take off so much weight when he travels and it seems very convenient to have all of your books stored in one place. Thanks so much for hosting this giveaway for Borders. email- jessicajane.love at yahoo.com

I’m not so sure I know at this point whther Books will change a whol lot in our household…A few have written that it will make deployments easier whether on a sub or a HWMMV. All the electronics my husband brought back from deployments were so coated in sand, inside and out, that they’ve never worked properly since! And then there’s our library. We love our books, read them over and over and enjoy sitting in our own private library (it really isn’t anything fancy, just lots of bookshelves and a comfy chair). I supposed if I had an eReader I would probably take it to get the oil changed, wait at the drs office, etc. My friends swear by them so I’m curious to give one a try!
I would love this…it would change the way I shop for books for sure!
I think that e-books have the potential to drastically change many aspects of how we purchase books, both in volume and frequency; however, for that to happen the price is going to have to significantly decrease for most of us. I have wanted a device like a Sony Reader for quite a while, but just cannot part with the money for one.
The appeal to me is the space saving. I am an Army wife with 4 young children. We’re currently stationed at an Air Force Base, and whoever has always said that the AF has better housing…well girls let me tell you they do not! I am living in a shoe box! It is a shoe box on the beach in Florida that I am very grateful to have, but a shoe box all the same. I am also a medical transcriptionist working full time from home. As you can imagine, we’re pretty cramped. My office is smooshed into a corner of my bedroom. Good thing I don’t like to do wild and crazy things in my bedroom, you know…like turn around or stretch my arms out. My elbows are bumping the walls as I type this. Okay, maybe that is an exaggeration, but the place is tiny and the kids have me out numbered!
My reference material for medical transcription is a must, but my books for pleasure reading take up space that we simply do not have. My most beloved books are sitting in boxes collecting dust. Don’t throw anything at me, but I forget to take library books back. I have a self-imposed library ban! My life is so insane with just trying to keep my head above water every day, that I often forget things if it is not going to result in bodily harm, starvation, or filth.
With a nifty Sony Reader, I would read so much more! I also love the idea of the portability of it. No bulky books stuffed in my bag for trips to the park. I truly love reading. For me, it is like a vacation. Reading a book is like escaping into that world for a few minuets. I leave a book feeling refreshed. Sure, that sounds cheesy and slightly retarded, but that is why I love reading all the same.
I have a hard time letting go of $20.00 for a hard-cover book that I am not going to be able to keep due to space, or will get lost in the sea of stored books. Let us not forget moving. I am married to SGT. Dity Move himself. Heaven forbid we ever let the government move us. Oh, no! We just might miss out on the profit of a dity move, the stress, the migraines, the cursing, the divorce threats, the crying, and the opportunity for good ol’ family togetherness. There again is the appeal of the e-book. All of my books would be crammed right into that handy dandy little device.
For me, e-books would dramatically increase the number of books I purchase. If I don’t have to leave the house with 4 kids, who love nothing more than to save all the fights and bathroom trips for the middle of the local super store, to get the book and I don’t have to find a spot to store it and I don’t have to lug it around in my purse, well that sounds pretty fantastic.
As for this contest, well I am hoping this was an either/or kind of thing. I don’t know how other folks have the time to blog, tweet, post, and so on and so forth. Hopefully we’re all getting out and enjoying some fresh air and exercise, it keeps a girl sane you know. Either I don’t have it together nearly as much as I think I do, or everyone else needs to have a few more kids to take up all that free time! Between exercise, kids, work, household stuff, good grief I am lucky to change my socks every day.
Best of luck to all in the random pickin’!
I wasnt going to enter, but my husband changed my mind. He has heard about this cool machine, and was telling me about the Sony Reader two days ago. He’s deploying VERY soon and would like to have one to kill some time and keep his mind off of things. He loves to read and this is just perfect for soldiers! I’m so glad Boarders is letting you give one away!

I definitely think these will change the way we shop for books. As you said, it is perfect for military members whose space when deployed is at a premium. I think deployed personnel and ship bound peeps will get hella use out of this technology. I am already an audiobook convert as holding a baby and playing with or feeding him monopolizes my time quite a bit these days. The idea of a screen displaying a book is mucho appealing!
I tweeted too because I am hella interested in an extra entry!

What a great giveaway! I know I would definitely buy more books, since digital ones are usually cheaper… and I’m cheap, haha!
