Wow... Just came across this post via Delta Whiskey's post about blogworldexpo (why on Earth was I not reading your blog before, Tammy?!) and I have to say that as I was reading the post, I kept thinking "how is this a 'worst blog experience'?" Then I got to the comments section.

Let me just say that I appreciated this post for a variety of reasons. It was well written, took OpSec seriously, and was respectful. It's refreshing to read first hand accounts of someone who isn't necessarily on the "front lines" and who recognizes the talent and bravery of those around him.

It astounds me that people are still thinking in such a hierarchical way (and the rank system isn't what I'm referring to, it's the disparity between MOS'). Here's the blunt truth coming from an INFANTRY wife: my husband could not do his job without the support of all of those "repairmen" because when things break, he's not trained to fix it. That's why there is such a thing as an MOS, because everybody can't do everything and do it well. Nobody is better than the others, they just play a different role. I wish people could get this through their thick heads.

At any rate, I commend both Tammy and SGT D on being brave enough to post this and deal with the consequences... even though I don't personally see why there would BE any consequences as it is a perfectly acceptable post which follows all military guidelines. Everybody has an opinion, and there are always those that love to swoop in and criticize... the true bravery in this situation belongs to Army Household6 for writing how they feel and standing by it.

This was very interesting while at the same time heart wrenching to read.

It's amazing what our Fighting Forces can/will accomplish under the most dire of circumstances.

My son-in-law (Sgt Buddy James Hughie) was a combat medic when he was KIA by a Taliban sniper. Buddy received two Bronze Star with Valor and a purple heart for his heroic actions.

Having received that life altering knock at the front door my heart aches when I see these young lives taken so suddenly. To most Americans it's just a number "5" or whatever but to us it's sobering.

Serve on in safety and valor SGT Daddy. I pray for your safe return to those who are most important, your family.

Tammy,
I just read this...and wow... Thank God for Sgt Daddy and all the men/women he worked with, and thank God for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Thank God for you, too, for being so supportive of him behind the scenes.

It is Sgt Daddy, with his E-5 rank (or E-1, or O-9), and his med repair support MOS (or front-line infantry, or pencil-pushing desk job back at home) that allow us to have these opinions, and therefore we can all appreciate that right.

I do not know the military creeds or laws of the UCMJ, so I respect the SGT's opinion on that matter; however, so long as a soldier is not sending personal or classified tactical information -- like Geraldo supposedly did on FoxNews with his 'strategy map' in the sand during the Iraq war -- then I dont see the problem with this blog post, except to help the people who read these posts understand the reality of the sacrifices they make. I'm a parent with a young son, and while the loss of my son would devastate me to no end, if he were lost in combat I would prefer the truth of his sacrifice be known rather than it sugarcoated as just another statistic -- just a difference of 1 more death.

If Sgt Daddy and Tammy were doing this primarily for profit and without concern for others, then yes shame on them, but I dont hear that. I hear a proud but hurting soldier, and a proud but hurting (and supportive) wife who cares. What I wish is that the real anger be taken from blogs like this and directed where it belongs -- to the administration -- and with one simple message to get them what they need and get the job done NOW, or bring them home where injuries like this wont happen. I wish the administration were as supportive of our troops as Tammy and everyone (including the critics) commenting on this blog.

God bless Sgt Daddy, Tammy, and all the men, women and supportive spouses and families devoting their lives to keeping us free.

Quick thought to Ann, Sgt-G, and Jane. Not sure what got your collective (or single?) panties in a wad, as what you describe is not at all what I see. Your comments don't show me much about any of you other than that you don't value free speech and don't have the first clue about what you are saying. Ignorant, in a word.

Tell you what, if you truly feel this strongly about things, come out to Blog World Explo (http://blogworldexpo.com) next week, listen, learn, and I'll even give you a chance to rant. To that end, drop me a line and I will give you a free membership to the milblog track Thursday 15 October. You can meet a range of spouse bloggers, combat bloggers, and more. You can hear from some who've done the heavy lifting the traditional media hasn't (and can't) do, you will hear from some that have had a heavy-handed and frankly idiotic higher hobble or block blogging, and you will hear from some who had support from higher -- and got great things done. So, here is a free chance to truly put up or shut up, and show the true courage of your convictions on this matter. This link (http://www.blackfive.net/main/2009/09/want-to-attend-milblog-track-at-blogworld.html) will tell you how to reach me.

You (ya'll?) can keep yapping, but I'm going to concentrate on Household6 and others that I know are truly getting things done for the troops. And are NOT profiting from it.

Any of you others that would like to attend, follow the same directions and I will take care of you. Active duty, veteran, retired, spouse, parent of those serving, child of those serving. Also, there will be some who simply are strong supporters, so feel free to drop me a line and let me know.

Wow. I first read this post a few days ago. I admit I was surprised just a little at the level of detail reported by Sgt Daddy (considering past blogging issues with such stories), but I'm just a civilian so who knows if I was right to be concerned. But had I thought to raise the issue I would've done it with utmost respect and kindness, considering that it's obvious neither Tammy nor her husband had any malicious intent and surely many feelings are raw at this time.

In short, there's nothing in that post that is self-aggrandizing or gratuitous. In fact, it's the epitome of blogging: telling what you see and experience, your version of the story. And Tammy is about to appear at BlogWorld Expo, so is anyone really surprised that the media might be interested in her take on things when a big story involves her husband's unit, even if her husband DIDN'T have a story to tell about it?

I've been trying to put myself in the shoes of the people upset at her, and I can imagine that this is an extremely sensitive topic for them, especially with the awful losses this unit has recently experienced. But for the life of me, I cannot understand the gratuitous insults and outrage. I'm so sad for all involved, because obviously something deeper than feelings about this blog post is driving things...

WOW! This is my first visit to this blog. I don't know Sgt. Daddy personally, and I have no experience in the military. I am appalled that military soldiers and wives of the military are the only ones against this post. One of my good friends is in Afghanistan on his 3rd tour. He writes about this kind of stuff all the time in his blog. No names are revealed. Nowhere in this blog do I see a man enjoying this experience or wanting to "profit" from it in any way. This is crazy that you two are attacking him and his wife for reitterating an experience. It's not being broadcast on the national news. Like someone mentioned, there are no pictures of the wounded here. This man should be honored and I don't care what his job is over there. He could be cleaning the toilets for all I care. We are the ones sitting in our confortable homes while HE is in harm's way.

Oh for God's sake, Amber...

You're clearly right...it was all Sgt. Daddy and Tammy's master plan...

I'm through with people like you. I'll just focus on the people and the things that get stuff done..
Some of you are at the mall...and I will actually be thankful for that.
Please stay there.

I seriously doubt "SGT Daddy's story" helped to get the word out, or benefited COP Keating in any way. SGT Daddy's story does not address the need of the soldiers at COP Keating, only his and Tammy's desire to sensationalize a horrible event. His story reads like a novel, which is what makes it difficult to read, and when the events are only a few days old. Was SGT Daddy just waiting for some tragic MasCal to happpen so that he could write a dramatic blog post?
