Update on Kiersten
Posted by: | Comments
Thanks for coming back to visit! If you would like to be a guest blogger at ArmyHousehold6.com - please let Tammy know!
Sorry for not updating sooner but we all needed some relaxation this weekend.
Kiersten’s surgery went remarkably well. We got to the hospital and they took us back right away. The nurses were great and really took their time to explain everything to Kiersten. She wasn’t all that nervous either.
(in fact she was more nervous the day before when she barricaded herself in the basement and wasn’t going to come out… I bribed her out with Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies )
Since I was “gimpy” with my broken ankle (lol), SGT Daddy went to the OR with her. As they wheeled her out, Kiersten started to cry which made me cry. Beck comes over and tells me ” Mom– Don’t worry she won’t die” Kids I tell ya !
Surgery went very well and I was able to go to the recovery room when she was done. We went home about 2 hours after she woke up.
Now this all occurred while a BLIZZARD was rolling into the Denver/Colorado Springs area.. I use the term Blizzard loosely here people. I don’t know maybe its from all the years of enduring Minnesota winters and being in a REAL blizzard. This time it wasn’t a blizzard.. it was snowing and it was windy.
So all in all everything went really well last week, despite the two trips to the hospital in one week. (mine was totally unplanned)
How was your weekend?
PS. SGT Daddy will be having his OWN blog very soon so stay on the lookout for that one!!
Sesame Street Rocks!
Posted by: | Comments
I loved Sesame Street/Sesame Workshop as a kid and even more as a parent! As a mom of two military brats, I found a new reason to love them!
A couple of years ago they came out with their Talk, Listen, Connect Initiative to offer support to help military families as they face challenging transitions of deployment and re-integration.
Now they are doing it again, this time talking about the Re-Integration process and homecoming! Their newest segment called “Coming Home: Military Families Cope with Change.” will air April 1st at 8pm (check your local listings) . The 30 minute HD segment features Queen Latifah, John Mayer and Elmo.
You can view a preview here!
In conjunction with the Sesame Street feature, PBS Engage is featuring Sesame Workshop’s Vice President for Outreach and Educational Practices Jeanette Betancourt . According to their website:
… as part of the ongoing PBS Engage series called “Five Good Questions .” The series features a PBS celebrity or insider and asks visitors to send in questions to be answered the following week. The blog series has been very successful and we are thrilled to have Dr. Betancourt as our feature this week.
This is a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about the coping with family changes, Sesame Workshop’s outreach initiatives, or whatever else is on your mind. We’ll pick five questions for Jeanette to answer and post her responses next week on the Engage blog.
Please visit the link and post your comments/ questions for Dr. Betancourt here
Let’s take a trip
Posted by: | CommentsNo, I’m not going anywhere right now… although I’d love to if someone wants to send me to a conference or seminar, I’m your girl! : )
Yesterday, I was working in my new office (down in the basement, pics coming soon) and I haven’t been feeling real well. I felt like I was going to vomit so I ran up the stairs to the main floor.
As I was rounding th corner, I saw my dog’s bone in the middle of the floor, I jump over it and MISSED ! LOL
I came down on the edge of the bone and felt my ankle go out. Boy did that hurt. Dan and I decided that I needed to go to the ER to have it looked at. 3 hours and 2 sets of X-rays later, the Dr tells me its broken. YEAH ME!
As they are putting the splint on, the Army medic tells me ” Ok Mrs Munson , let’s be Army strong while I putting this on ” I laughed so hard I nearly fell off the hospital bed.
I’m doing ok no major issues .. just need to wear the splint and walk on crutches. I’m just glad that SGT Daddy is around to help out.
This is a super busy week too.. Kiersten has her eye surgery on Thursday at the local civilian hospital here in Colorado Springs . Don’t worry its nothing major… she has strabismus (lazy eye) and they need to surgically fix her upper eye muscle. It’s an outpatient thing so she will be home that afternoon. I’m not super worried but one of my babies is having surgery ya know! Prayers and good thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Time for some meds… and a nap!

Posted by: | CommentsWell as I said the other day , we went to meet with Kiersten’s teachers and the Asst. Prinicpal. (Kiersten wasn’t there she was at Choir practice)on Friday. They were shocked to hear what was going on, they hadn’t seen anything at school to suggest there was a problem. Kiersten’s main teacher was very upset that Kiersten was enduring this and she guaranteed to move Kiersten away from “D” and have a talk with him.
The Asst. Principal took it a step further and said that “D” would be receiving a discipline referral so that there would be documentation at the school. She also suggested that if “D” shows up by our house again , that we should call the MP’s. They will be able to do something for us since there is the documentation at school, showing he has been bullying Kiersten and our neighbor’s kid, M.
SGT Daddy and I are both satisfied with the actions that the school is taken. Kiersten came home from school very happy that she didn’t have to sit near D again. She also had a talk with the Principal about what happened and Kiersten feels ok with it all.
On a positive note, Kiersten and Becca has made freinds with all the neighbor kids now that it is warmer and they are having a blast. Kids have been in and out of our house all day today! : )
Thanks for all the comments and notes of support for Kiersten. : )
No Bullies Allowed
Posted by: | CommentsToday, I went up to the school to pick up Rebecca as Kiersten had an after school field trip to the Art Museum. As we are walking down the hallway, I see Kiersten. My first thought is why is she not on the bus heading to the Art Museum.
I ask her what’s wrong , and she bursts into tears! Now, Kiersten does the flair for the dramatic and has been known for her “Emmy- award winning” dramatic performances. I had a feeling this was different and something was really wrong.
She told me just didn’t want to go which is weird b/c she has been talking about it all week and she loves ART! All she could do is cry and asking not to make her go. I took her to the art classroom to let her teacher know that she wouldn’t be going.
Finally when we got back to the house, she was calm enough and started to tell me what was going on. Basically, one of the neighborhood boys has been bullying her. He is also in her class.
She told me how he calls her names, tells her she’s stupid, and other things. I couldn’t believe my ears!
I don’t understand why kids have to be so mean, she’s a sweet and good kid and treats others kindly. I know kids can be mean…and yes she has some special needs but nothing that is truly profound. She wants to be everyone’s friend. Now she’s afraid to go to events that this kid will be at, afraid to go to the park, etc.
It truly breaks my heart that this little punk has done this to her. Mama Bear is ANGRY!
SGT Daddy and I are meeting with the teacher and Asst Principal tomorrow morning to discuss on what is going to be done at school to stop this kid’s behavior toward Kiersten .
I know that things will only get worse unfortunately as she gets older. I’m wondering if sending her to a virtual school/homeschool is in our future.
I’ll update when I can ….
Obama calls off Vets Plan
Posted by: | Comments
I just saw this come across the wires and I thought I’d post the update. It’s about time the Administration came to their senses and called it off.
No part of the plan was a good idea at all.. I’m so happy that our voices along with the Veterans Support groups were heard by Obama.
