Soldiers’ Angels needs you…

Posted by: Tammy | Comments (0)

I saw this on Facebook and I thought I’d pass it along. I’ll also be posting it over at HASMO

Soldiers’ Angels is calling all Mary Kay Beauty Consultants

Selected independent Mary Kay distributors have teamed up with Soldiers’ Angels to get our troops the skin protection they need. Some distributors donate a duplicate of each product sold, while others give a percentage of their profits. Check with your Mary Kay distributor to see if she is participating in this project!

The Tax ID# for Soldiers’ Angels (so you can claim the donation) is 20-0583415. The donated sets are being sent directly from Mary Kay Cosmetics to Soldiers’ Angels, who will then distribute it to the soldiers.

Mary Kay items for our male and female troops are needed:

  • After Shave
  • Facial Cleansing Bar
  • Facial Moisturizer
  • Body Cleansing Gels
  • Body Lotions
  • Sunburn Soothing Gel
  • Facial Cleansing Cloths (Dry-just add water)
  • Lip Balm
  • Acne Treatment
  • Gel Energizing Lotion for Feet and Legs
  • Satin Hands Treatment for Dry cracked hands
  • Black waterproof mascara
  • Nail polish

Any makeup you have to donate is also now being accepted as well. We are putting these into our Female Vet packs that are being distributed to the VA hospitals.

If you are a consultant that wants to get involved, please send your product to one of the following warehouses

If west of the Mississippi, ship to:
Soldiers’ Angels
914 Tourmaline Dr
Newbury Park, CA 91320

If east of the Mississippi, ship to:

Soldiers’ Angels
112 Greenhill Rd.
Ramseur, NC 27316

Thanks to the generosity of Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants from all over the United States who have donated product to Soldiers’ Angels, www.angelsstore.org now has Pretty in Pink kits available for $29 (which includes shipping).

Each kit contains at least seven Mary Kay products, plus 10 feminine wipes, 10 women’s deodorant towelettes, two boxes of tampons, and a mini fingernail file and clipper.

Soldiers’ Angels understands that females are instrumental in the current war, and makes special efforts to support them. “Our female warfighters are so strong and courageous, and we’re so grateful for their service,” says Patti Patton-Bader, founder of Soldiers’ Angels. “We’re excited to be able to show them some extra love and help them remember that they’re still ladies.” With this in mind, the Pretty in Pink kit provides female service members with health and hygiene products, and items for a few pampering moments to allow ladies to rejuvenate and ‘be good to themselves.’

Pretty in Pink kits must be sent to an APO/FPO (no residential addresses). They can be sent to a specific soldier, or supporters can request their purchased kit be sent to “Any (Female) Soldier” anonymously or in the supporter’s name.

Well, what are you waiting for? It is time to pamper a deployed service member- https://www.angelsstore.org/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MINprettypink

Another Christmas come and gone ….

Posted by: Tammy | Comments (4)

Wow as quickly as Christmas came.. POOF it was gone! Since we just got to Colorado, we decided not to go anywhere this Christmas. It was so nice just being the 4 of us. Nowhere we had to be… we just chilled all day Wednesday and Thursday. I know next year won’t be the case but it was VERY NICE this year!

Like I said we didn’t do much.. On Christmas Eve we basically watched Christmas movies, sang Christmas songs, and get things ready for the BIG Day!

Christmas morning… our lovely (use that word loosely) children decided to get up at 0-dark-thirty (530 AM ) to be exact to open presents. The kids certainly hit the motherload this year. Santa brought all kinds of presents(Barbie, High School Musical, Hannah, & Cheetah Girls stuff)  but the coveted Wii was definitely the big hit.

I got a few things I wanted : a new MN Wild Hockey jersey (yes yes I know I live in Colorado now) , another “Atta Girl” to add to my collection (this one for the PCS move), and some other cool stuff. SGT Daddy got a new game for the xbox, some clothes, Master & Commander Books, and some HALO3 things.  : )

kodakesp9Sgt Daddy and I bought ourselves a new printer which totally ROCKS! It’s the new Kodak ESP 9 Printer .. you know the one with the cheaper priced ink.

The best part about it is that the printer is wireless and the print quality is amazing. It took about 5 min to get it all setup and connected to the wireless network.

I’ll never have to leave the comfort of my sofa now when I’m working : ) (i’m not sure yet if that’s a good thing or a bad thing)

The rest of the day we spent playing with our new toys, eating an awesome Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and had a great time!

Now that Christmas is over and 2009 is right around the corner, we get to start getting ready for training at Polk and the BIG D (no not Divorce or Dallas but Deployment). I guess Christmas was the benchmark so to speak.

The “I’m not going to think about it till after Christmas ” deadline.

Now that it is here and gone, I’m thinking about Big D a lot wondering what life is going to be like, what deployment gremlins (aka problems) will arise, how the kids will tolerate Sgt Daddy not being around, How I will tolerate being a “married single parent”… ah the list goes on and on . Sometimes I think .. oh just hurry up and go so we can get it over with. (not really but you know what I mean)

Well I hear the Wii calling my name……

Update on Verizon situation

Posted by: Tammy | Comments (0)

I just got an direct message from a Twitter follower who works for Verizon who asked for some information so that they can see if they can get me the information I may need. Well that’s certainly progress…ah the power of Twitter.  : )

I’ll let you know what happens…

UPDATE

Well let me just say it.. “THANK GOD FOR TWITTER” !!! My twitter friend (@CZ) was able to get in touch with someone for me. Verizon Rep called yesterday to tell me that they sent the RA labels to on old email address (they never verified my email address with me ). I spoke with Cornelia at Verizon who took my new email info and gave me the RA # over the phone. Last night in email, I got my RA Labels and an apology from Verizon.

WOOHOO! Off to the UPS store I go!  : ) Thanks Twitter and @CZ

Why must things be so difficult???

Posted by: Tammy | Comments (5)

… sounds like one of my kids talking but I’m really not liking Verizon right now! Wait Let me clarify that a bit… Verizon Wireless ROCKS! Verizon FIOS not so much…. We’ve have numerous problems over the last 12 months with billing issues and the like. The FIOS Internet was super fast and worked great! Now if only their customer service was like that.

Now I ‘m sure you’re wondering why I’m talking about Verizon FIOS considering they don’t have FIOS in the Springs? Well here is the story….

Before we left Virginia, I called Verizion FIOS to cancel our account since we were moving to a non-FIOS area. (makes sense right??) At first, they were nice but giving me a hard time about cancelling the account. I explained to them that we had PCS orders from the Army and didn’t have a choice. The nice lady explained to me that I’d receive a final bill (no bill yet 2 weeks later) and that I could just drop off our FIOS modem to ANY UPS store and they would take care of getting it back to Verizon.

They said that we had 30 days from the termination date before a equipment charge of $150 would be tacked on to our account. I asked if I need an authorization # or something, she said “no maam, just your account # is enough” I’m thinking Awesome .. and how easy that will make our hectic life at the time!

Well we forgot to do it on our way out of Virginia.. so we said ok no problem we’ll do it once we get to Colorado.

Last week I go to the UPS store here at Carson… I tell the rep at the store that I need to send this back to Verizon. She looked at me like I had 3 heads and was the color purple! She said that she had no idea on how to do that. After looking up some information, she told me that I also needed an Authorization # from Verizon as well as the authorization labels that they were supposed to send me. (GRRRR)

Speed up to today… I finally get around to call Verizon and I’m on the phone with the automated system for 10 minutes before I finally get a LIVE person. I’m transferred around 3 times before the lady tells me that I need to call Verizon FIOS. I explained to her how long I’ve been on the phone already and could she transfer me directly. She says of course, no problem”! As she transfers me, I got disconnected.

I’m soooo happy now! (sarcasm in case you weren’t sure ) Then I get this bright idea… why don’t we just take it to one of the local Verizon stores and talk to a LIVE person. So that’s my plan… I’m sure there will be more to this story.

Now my experience with Direct TV was much different (we decided on Cable for here, lots of cloud cover b/c of the mountains )… I called them, told them I needed to cancel , they said ok and they would mail me my return labels and it was done. This took all of 10 minutes. Verizon FIOS you could learn a lesson or two (or more) from Direct TV and how they treat their customers, whether they are adding new service or canceling their current one.

Received this from Mamaw where it was originally posted on Soldiers Angels: Germany

Sad news – I posted recently about the Blankets of Hope Linda Ferrara (keep scrolling at that link) and her friends made for the patients at Landstuhl. She’s also been working with the West Point Parent Club collecting other donations for the warriors here.

Everything was stolen this past weekend.

Update: Just emailed with Denise Nix of The Daily Breeze who broke this story and is all over it:

- Mother’s donations stolen “I don’t want to let them down,” Ferrara said. “This wasn’t just stuff, this was going to wounded soldiers.”
- “Those guys are over there putting their lives on the line, even for the thieves”

Update 6 Dec: The Ferraras have been informed that their insurance company is, indeed, going to cover the cost of the stolen items. Good on them. Of course, some of the

donations such as the blankets cannot be replaced with money alone and will take some time to recreate. Our thanks to everyone for their support.

If you would like to help out with blankets or send a donation, let me know and I’ll put you in contact with them.
