My day with the Marines…huh?
Posted by: | Comments
Thanks for coming back to visit! If you would like to be a guest blogger at ArmyHousehold6.com - please let Tammy know!
Yes I spent Saturday with a bunch of Marines…parents that is! As part of my duties with Military.com, I was asked to speak about blogging and some of the blogs that we have at military.com as well as other MilParent blogs that are out there.
I have to say at first I felt a little nervous being around so much “Marine” stuff. I mean I’m definitely all Army!
The attendees at the conference were amazing and certainly made this Army wife at home and very welcome. Every single one of attendees were a parent (or parents) of a actively serving military member.
There were several new organizations that I found out about serving the needs of the milParents, so they can better support their son or daughter. I’ll be posting a few of those resources over at Parent Zone in the next few days.
My boss, Vince Patton, and I even did a video segment on Talking with Hereos Radio Show. As soon as we get the video URL I’ll post it here! : ) Our show will air LIVE on August 28, 2008
It was so great talking with those parents and how blogging can help them in a variety of ways. I’m so excited to see what kinds of things they start doing with their blogs. :)
A special thanks goes out to Mariann Jordan – Marine Parents United President – who made sure we had everything we needed as well as the rest of the event team! You all put on a great event!

Holy Schnikes Update
Posted by: | CommentsWell we took the car over to the car repair place and they were to do the estimate on the cost to fix everything. They weren’t sure because they think the frame is bent due to the front end damage. So, we are back to having one car… ah so much fun!
We thought we would have heard from the car repair place by now but I guess its like anything… hurry up and wait. Hopefully we’ll know on Monday!

Holy Schnikes!
Posted by: | CommentsBoy you never know how your day will start huh? I got up this morning and did my normal morning routine upstairs. I’m thinking about my to-do list and how much there is on it! As I’m coming down the stairs, I see my husband sleeping on the sofa. So I think — Hmmm why is he home today?
So naturally I wake up him and ask why is he home? (not that I’m complaining mind you its just that he didn’t have a day off planned today or anything) So he wakes up and says ” Honey, the car did a ‘Tommy Boy’ today!” Excuse me? What does that mean?

So he starts telling me how he is driving along this morning to work … then all of a sudden the hood just unhitches and FLIES up hitting the windshield ! There was some additional front end damage as he hit the median bumpers trying to stop the car on the freeway. His friend SGT Rhoten (who was riding in the car) nearly jumped out of his skin. Luckily they were only 10 minutes away from home and Dan certainly couldn’t drive the car into work, another 30 minutes away.
I think that this is definitely going to be filed under the “you’re not going to believe this one” category! LOL
Off I go to call the insurance company and get this fixed. I’m still laughing about it! : ) I’m sure there will be more to this story.. so stay tuned!

Piggy Bank Dilemmia??
Posted by: | Comments
I was reading a post over at my friend Shannon’s blog about her piggy bank dilemma. Shannon has a piggy bank for her son Andrew to collect extra coin and change around the house like most parents do. They wait till its full and then take it to the bank or a Coinstar location to get the cash.
Did you know that Coinstar can charge almost 10% and many banks are charging a fee to process bulk coin as well?
Didn’t this use to be a free service provided by the banks?
Many of the local banks here in the Northern Virginia charge a fee for even the most simple transactions. I would think that they would provide this service as they can always use “change” not to mention just being “customer service friendly”!
So getting back to Shannon’s dilemmia … she wanted to know what should she do? Well what we do most of the time is take the coin to our local credit union where the kids have a savings account and deposit it in there. (We use the Coinstar system currently but I think we’ll just count it ourselves) It’s usually a pretty small amount since its a weekly trip.
After looking at the Coinstar website, they do offer an alternative. If you put the money on a gift card (for places like Amazon, Starbucks, iTunes, etc , they do not charge you a fee. That might be a good idea if your child is saving for something in particular, like a new DS game or something.
Also if you’re near an AAFES PX, you can take it there and they’ll count it for you. They generally put it on a AAFES gift card for us. I don’t mind that because we take a trip to the PX weekly for misc. items, Burger King, etc.
Disclaimer – I can’t say anything negative about our “main” Bank — USAA– because they are located in San Antonio so we don’t deposit bulk coin. They have a great feature where you can bank from home too. All you have to do is scan in your checks. I’m telling ya it rocks! : )
On the road again..
Posted by: | CommentsYes my husband is on the road again (for the Army) and this time he’s off to upstate NY for some medical equipment training. (In case you don’t know.. he fixes medical equipment for the Army)
It’s crazy.. last year he was only gone for 10 days to Korea. He’s done a lot of TDY’s this year but this trip I was a bit jealous that I wasn’t going too! LOL
Why is that? It’s not like I don’t go on trips for my business or Military.com.
I guess this time it was going to take him near Niagara Falls… Someplace I’ve always wanted to go!
On their way up to the training center, he and his friend Scott stopped at Niagara Falls (US side)! As soon as he gets home with MY OUR camera… I’ll post the pictures!
Ok so getting back to my jealousy issue… What was that all about? I’m not usually a jealous person.. I know I can’t be the only one. Am I ??
Perhaps it was that we could have tagged along but decided not too. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not blaming him or the Army. I guess I’m just blaming me for not going! I’m sure these things will come up over the years in the Army. I know I shouldn’t complain as he’ll be home in a few days, but I’m gonna anyway.
Anyway, its been busy as ever around here. Normally when Dan is gone, things are crazy and hectic but its worse than normal with the kids at home ,etc. Before the summer started, I envisioned lazy days hanging out at the pool, chatting with the neighbors, working in the yard.. where did that dream go??
Ok I guess I’ve done enough rambling for a Thursday night. Thanks for tuning into the Thursday Therapy Talk … we’ll now return you to your regular programming! : )
I’ve got some really cool upcoming events as well awesome things coming up for the blog in the next few days. I’ll give you two hints…. reviews and life-casting! : )

Bullies!
Posted by: | Comments
Why is it that people feel the need to be a bully ? Yes that is a the question I’m asking myself tonight on a holiday weekend. I was on one of my favorite social networking sites minding my own business when this person decided to start being just downright rude with me.
Now I’m sure you’re thinking , ” well Tammy maybe you said something that offended him/her.” Well under normal circumstances, I’d buy that. (as that has been known to happen with my political ideology) but not this time. This time this person just choose to be a bully and I was the target!
* I’m purposely leaving this generic as I don’t want any good traffic or publicity coming their way as a result of their bullish ways *
I made a completely generic post about something that I was working on for the future and was related to my business in social media/new media.
How can you be insulted by that? But this person proceeded to post rude comments without any regard for me and/or others in the social networking forum.
At first I was all ticked off and upset by what they were saying and accusing me of but then I remembered a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt :
” No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
Then I realized that I was letting this person win by getting all upset and irritated when I know I didn’t do anything wrong! I just didn’t agree with this person’s way of thinking. The kicker was that I was giving them consent to make me feel bad.
Well guess what I’m not giving you consent to do so! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
You know I never really understood what made people act like a bully whether its online or offline. I don’t know maybe they have some sort of God/superiority complex or they just do it to be mean.
Either way, it’s not going to get this Army wife down.
