You might be a military brat….
Posted by: | Comments
Thanks for coming back to visit! If you would like to be a guest blogger at ArmyHousehold6.com - please let Tammy know!
I’m not a military brat but I do have 2 of them… and proud of it!!!
* if you actually like the clothes at the PX and don’t mind that 100 other people are wearing the same thing.
* if you wish you were back at the last place you were stationed and are only 10.
* if the question “where are you from?” is answered with “I’m kinda from all over the place.”
* if you are amazed at people who have never left their home town.
* if you are commonly asked, “Is it hard always moving around?” and you don’t know anything different.
* if you go to a grocery store but insist on calling it a commissary.
* if you have ever bagged groceries at the commissary on payday.
* if you had/still have hospital corners on your bed.
* if you don’t really know the answer to the question “what is your home town.”
* if you ever feared turning 21 because they would take your id card away.
* if you have spent more time on a military base than in a real town even though you’ve been a civilian all your life.
* if you ever got restricted to quarters or put on KP duty as a kid.
* if you had a father who was always telling you to “Go police up your room!”
* if you have ever been “dropped” for your grades at school.
* if you have to explain that being born in Germany does not make you German.
* if you know what “the land of the big PX” means.
* if you actually miss shopping at AAFES or the PX.
* if you have ever had to have an ID card to get back home from “down range.”
* if you have ever asked “CPT Smith, can Tommy come out and play?”
* if you graduated from 12th grade and it was your 13th school.
* if you had to tell your math teacher last school was teaching subtraction, new school was on division and you missed multiplication
* if you live in one state and your father/mother lives in another because they were newly stationed there.
Do you have a military brat?

2007 MilBlog Conference
Posted by: | CommentsWell I’m about to leave a party for the 2007 MilBlog Conference that is this weekend in Arlington, VA. It should be a blast.. when is it not when a bunch of bloggers get together? (and Military Bloggers no less) : ) I’m attending in my “official” capacity as the Military District of Washington Installation Ambassador for Military.com. (They are one of the sponsors of the conference) but I was planning on going anyway.
The panelists they have lined up are awesome – ArmyWifeToddlerMom, Andi, Neptunus Lex, Greyhawk, Some Solidiers Mom and the list goes on and on.
The webcast will be available at MilBlogs on Saturday morning for up to 1,000 concurrent users. Mrs. G will be moderating the chat room.
I’ll be posting pictures and hopefully some audio and video after I get back on Saturday night.
Here is the link to a video that a bunch of George Washington University students put together at last year’s inaugural event.
If you are attending…hope to see you there! (Come find me, I’ll be wearing the Military.com shirt)

Military Spouse Appreciation Day
Posted by: | CommentsCourtesy of lovingasolider.com
Today’s Army is built on a legacy of great men and women who have shaped it into the greatest Army in the world. However this would not have been possible without the unending dedication and support of a very special group of people, which the military will pay tribute to on May 11 this year.
That special group of people is military spouses. Our Soldiers would not be able to fight and win our nation’s wars without the peace of mind that things are fine back at home. Now, more than ever, military spouses are the true strength behind the Army. Since the Army’s earliest days, spouses have been the strength of support for Soldiers, a rich tradition that continues today.
President Ronald Reagan recognized the profound importance of the military spouse’s commitment to the readiness and Well-Being of servicemembers, and on May 23, 1984, he signed a proclamation that set aside the Friday before Mother’s Day each year as Military Spouse Day.
In the two-plus decades since, the mettle of military spouses continues to be tested as our Soldiers have been called to duty to fight America’s Global War on Terrorism. With the recent shift in Army policy that will expand the length of Soldiers’ combat tours in Iraq from 12 to 15 months it will continue to be tested.
This year, Military Spouse Day will be observed on May 11, so please take time on that day to extend a special thanks to military spouses for the special part they play in keeping our Army Strong
Their Story : A Million Thanks
Posted by: | CommentsI received this email from a reader over the weekend. We are hoping to have the opportunity to interview Shauna and stream it here on the blog.
In May 2004, Shauna Fleming, a California teenager, was asked to complete a high school service project. Shauna decided to create a program that showed Americans new ways to say, “thank you†to our troops. Her program, “A Million Thanks,†collects cards and notes that are sent to the active U.S. armed forces and has turned into a year-round campaign. She collected her first one million cards by November 2004 and has collected more ever since.
Shauna has gained a number of supporters since her program’s inception. She’s even gotten sponsorship to help forward her cause. During the month of May, the “A Million Thanks” organization has partnered with Buick, Pontiac and GMC dealerships across the country in hopes to collect another one million individual “thank you” cards.
